Theodore G. Ganiats, MD, is Executive Director of the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) Health Outcomes Assessment Program, and Professor and Interim Chair of the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine at UCSD School of Medicine.

Dr Ganiats is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, American Medical Association, American Heart Association (Epidemiology Council), American Public Health Association, International Society for Quality of Life Research, Physicians for Social Responsibility, and Society for Medical Decision Making, among others. His research interests are focused primarily on quality of life, especially as it relates to preventive medicine. In 2002, Dr Ganiats received the Family Practice Research Award from the California Academy of Family Physicians.

Dr Ganiats serves on the editorial board of several professional publications, including Journal of Family Practice, Family Practice News, Bulletin of the Multinational Center of Quality of Life Research, and Drugs in Context, and is a reviewer for numerous journals. He has been instrumental in the development of practice guidelines and quality/process measures, many of which have been published. A frequent presenter, Dr Ganiats is the author or coauthor of nearly 125 articles, book chapters, book reviews, editorials, and letters. He received his medical degree from UCSD School of Medicine, where he also completed a residency in family medicine and served as Chief Resident.
