Michael A. Weber, MD, is Professor of Medicine at the SUNY Downstate Medical College of Medicine, Brooklyn, New York.
Dr Weber's career has been focused primarily on hypertension and preventive cardiology. He was one of the founders of the American Society of Hypertension (ASH) and has served as its President. He is currently Chair of the ASH Hypertension Specialists Program. A Fellow of the American College of Physicians, American College of Cardiology, and American Heart Association, Dr Weber has served on the Cardiovascular and Renal Drugs Advisory Board of the Food and Drug Administration and continues as a consultant to that Agency. Current research interests are centered on clinical trials of patients with hypertension and those at high risk of cardiovascular events or recurrent strokes. He is also an active participant in trials involving patients with diabetic and nondiabetic nephropathy. Dr Weber currently serves on the steering committees of several national and international clinical outcomes trials.
Dr Weber has published numerous research articles in the medical literature and has authored or edited 10 books. Together with Dr Suzanne Oparil, he is responsible for the widely used reference volume Hypertension. He received his medical degree from Sydney University in Australia.
